February half term is approaching, thinking about making family plans? We thought it was a good time to mention that at Ambleside Townhouse if you buy three of our Superior Rooms, you get the forth for free! Which is just perfect for families looking for a break in the Lake District, don’t you think?
So if you are thinking about staying but are wondering how to entertain the kids….we have the answers! There are so many fantastic family activities to do in the area, here are a few that we would recommend.
Brockhole Visitor Centre
Only a 9 minute drive down the road from Ambleside Townhouse is the Brockhole. This visitor centre has endless entertainment for children and the whole family. You could take on Tree Top Trek, a high ropes course with 35 exciting challenges including aerial obstacles, rope bridges, wobbly logs and a zip wire. There are different Trek’s available suitable for 5 year olds to adults!
Plus that’s not all, another of the numerous activities available at Brockhole is pony riding. Enjoy a gentle ride around the beautiful grounds, this activity is suitable for anyone aged 2 -70!
The Predator Experience
Are you an animal lover? Head to the Predator Experience, it is only a 30 minute drive from Ambleside Townhouse and set in the stunning landscape of the national park - you won’t be disappointed! Activities here are suitable for children aged 4 and above. You could learn how to handle and fly an eagle, or if you’re really brave….meet tarantulas and snakes and learn about biodiversity and how they catch their prey.
Fell Foot Park
We appreciate family holidays can be expensive - what’s great about the Lake District is that there is plenty of free family activities to do as well. One great free activity that we would recommend is a trip to Fell Foot Park at the southern tip of Windermere Lake. We are situated near the Northern tip so this is a great day out and opportunity to view the spectacle that is Lake Windermere from another view point.
The park is very family friendly there is parking on site, it is suitable for pushchairs, has toilets, baby changing, and if you’ve chosen not to bring a packed lunch, there is a restaurant too. The breadth of open space is ideal for fun games like frisbee and rounders, there is even an adventure playground great for kids 2 -12 years. Plus, if you’re a water baby (despite the cold!) there is nothing stopping you paddling, swimming or boating from the Lake shore.
Whether you have already booked, or are thinking about a stay, call our friendly team for advice or tips on where to go and what to do with family or friends. Many of our guests often feel spoilt for choice as there is just so much to do!
