• We’re feeling a little famous here at Lakes Lodge HQ today. We were recently featured on the front page of The Mail on Sunday’s fabulous Event supplement… how exciting! In a special edition about joyous walks in the footsteps of Britain’s literary lions, the lovely Lake District makes an appearance and includes a mention of Lakes Lodge. The article begins in Grasmere, which is of course famous for being the home of William Wordsworth. After exploring Wordsworth’s famous haunts, namely Dove Cottage, Rydal Mount, Rydal Hall and the Old Stamp House, the literary tour heads down to Ambleside. The article reads: “On Lake Road, you’ll find a small hotel called Lakes Lodge. Back in the Victorian era, this was Laurel Villa – the house where Beatrix Potter and her parents stayed in 1885. “Ambleside is busier now than it was then, but with its mountainous backdrop, you can still see what Potter was getting at when she suggested that ‘the town child is more alive to the fresh beauty of the country than a child who is country born’.” If you fancy following in the footsteps of the literary lions of the Lake District, why not base your tour in wonderful Ambleside and stay with us?
