The Tour of Britain is just around the corner and in it’s second stage, will be travelling through Ambleside. The whole of Ambleside has gone ‘bicycle-mad’, with Ambleside Together decorating the town in colourful bikes. You can even find a Cumbria-themed bike sitting pretty outside our sister hotel: The Regent Hotel.
Ambleside Together have also organised for the whole event to be shown on a Big Screen to be placed on the University of Cumbria campus, seconds away from where the cyclists will be passing by! The screen will be showing full live TV coverage of the whole event, with campus facilities extending their opening times and extra parking available.
Entry to the event begins at 9:45am and is completely free, with live coverage from 1 - 4pm. Cycling fans will be able to see the entire journey, from Carlisle to Kendal including the infamous ascent: ‘The Struggle’, found just after Ambleside, on the road up to the Kirkstone Pass.
If you need to find accommodation right on top of where the event will be playing out, look no further. Mere meters away from where the Big Screen will be televising the entire event, Lakes Lodge is in the perfect location!
